The Children’s Museum of Sonoma County is looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic, and creative Wonder Camp Intern to join our Wonder Camp team for the summer! As a Wonder Camp Intern, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day experience of children ages 6–12 in a fun, hands-on camp environment. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in informal education, child supervision, and museum operations while fostering creativity and imagination through play-based learning.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise and Engage Campers: Monitor and engage with groups of children throughout the camp day, ensuring their safety and well-being during structured activities, free play, and snack/lunch breaks.
- Provide Camp Support: Assist with daily camp operations, including managing camper groups, supervising free play, and providing guidance during snack and lunch breaks. Ensure that all children are actively engaged, safe, and having fun.
- Support Camp Programming: Assist with the preparation and facilitation of themed activities and projects designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and fun.
- Lead Group Activities: Co-lead small groups of campers through guided experiences, helping to create a supportive and inclusive environment for all participants.
- Foster Critical Thinking and Collaboration: Encourage campers to think critically and work together to solve real-world problems, promoting teamwork, creativity, and inquiry-based learning.
- Prepare and Organize Materials: Help ensure all supplies and materials are organized, safe, and ready for use. Assist in keeping camp spaces clean and well-maintained.
- Assist with Camp Setup and Breakdown: Help with setting up the camp environment each day, ensuring that all materials are organized and ready. Assist with clean-up at the end of each session.
- Additional related duties as assigned by the Camps & Volunteer Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 18 years or older by start date.
- Bilingual skills a plus.
- Current enrollment in an education degree program a plus.
- Interest in working with children in a play-based, hands-on learning environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Highly organized with the ability to multi-task and adapt to changes as needed.
- Sensitive to working with diverse audiences and various ages.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, with a positive attitude and willingness to contribute wherever needed.
- Ability to think creatively, shift focus, and solve challenges on the fly as needed.
- Willingness to maintain the highest safety standards in all aspects of camp and Museum activities.
REQUIREMENTS
- Current First Aid/CPR Certification or willingness to complete prior to start of camps.
- Must be willing to complete Mandated Reporter Training prior to the start of camps.
- Pass a criminal background check upon hire.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds and assist with setup and breakdown of materials and equipment.
- Must be able to stand, sit and move around for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to work in a dynamic museum environment, both indoors and outdoors.
- Must be able to communicate clearly.
POSITION DETAILS
This is a full-time, hourly, temporary position, reporting to the Camps & Volunteer Manager.
Internship pay rate: $18.00 per hour.
Employment Start Date: May 19, 2025 (Trainings will be scheduled between this date and camp start date.)
Camp Start Date: June 9, 2025
Camp End Date: August 8, 2025 Employment End Date: August 15, 2025 (Final debrief session will be scheduled before this date.)
